Aerodynamic Analysis

Andrews Space has several senior staff with extensive aerodynamic and aircraft configuration backgrounds.  Andrews employs leading industry standard CAD and CFD tools enabling end to end support for aerodynamic analysis including lofting, mesh generation, flow solution calculation, and post-processed data analysis and visualization.  Flow solutions for meshes as large as 20 million cells can be run on our in-house computing cluster, providing fast and accurate results.

Modeling capabilities include:

  • Compressible and incompressible flows
  • Steady and unsteady flows
  • Single and multi-species non-equilibrium reacting flows
  • Conjugate heat transfer solutions
  • Structured and unstructured grid solutions
  • Accurate turbulent flow modeling using RANS, LES, and hybrid RANS/LES

Taken together, these capabilities support a wide range of aerodynamic and aerothermal analyses to include cryogenic internal flows, impinging and free jet analyses, launch and recovery flight attitudes, and high altitude hypersonic reentry flows.

Andrews Space actively maintains two CAD programs (Pro/E and Rhino), two mesh generation utilities (Gridgen and MIME), the CFD++ flow solver and two post-processing utilities (FieldView and Tecplot). This tool suite provides the breadth of capability required to manage any problem, no matter how complex the geometry or the flow physics are. However, Andrews analysts are experienced with other software (e.g., CATIA, STAR-CCM+, NPARC, EnSight) should the needs of our customer call for their use.
